2009 RFS Bike Econorun Newsletter 2
Good day Everybody,
Well 2009 is speeding on quite fast already and we have to start to prepare for the best biking event on the calendar, the RFS Bike Econorun.
Please remember that the date has changed to 2-4 July.
Our plans for this year’s RFS Econorun is busy taking shape, ...
I have planned a route and are just waiting for the contractor who is rebuilding some roads near Loskop to inform me about his program before we finalise the roads to use. As usual we are planning a demanding but enjoyable route as before, the distances will be much the same as always, approximately 950 km over the two days. We plan to use totally different roads than the last couple of years (yes they are there, believe me)
We will use the same successful recipe as last year, starting, scrutineering and filling up at Forever resort at Loskopdam as in 2008, on the Thursday afternoon the 2nd July 2009. We will depart on the Friday morning to Hotel Numbi where we will stay for Friday and Saturday evenings,( and Sunday if you wish to do so)
The good news is that with the welcome drop in the fuel price we can keep the entry and accommodation fees the same as last year. Forever Resorts had a very small accommodation price increase and Willie Fick has got no option but to keep his tariffs fixed, he will make up the difference in his “entertainment and beverages” section.
This will all be explained in the regulations.
We had a very constructive meeting with most of the manufacturers, importers and other parties involved and by mutual agreement the classes have changed slightly to be in line with the changes in the various new models.
A new class for bikes above 1200 cc was introduced, splitting the classes at 700cc, 1010cc, 1200cc and above 1200cc.The class for pillion passengers up to 900 cc was dropped and the pillion class was split into up to and over 1200 cc. The controversial duel purpose class will stay the same as 2008, up to 700cc, then up to 1000cc and 1001cc and over.
I know that many of you want to split classes by cylinders, but we can simply not have a class for every bike. The method of using the engine capacity seems to work the best for everybody. The reason that there are more Bee Ems in most classes is simply because more people buy and enter them, however even Arnold Olivier was satisfied with these classes so that means that everybody else should be too.
The modified class will again be open to everybody that has modified his/her bike and it is not in standard trim anymore, we used Grant Scott’s suggestion that this class should be open to anybody that is serious to win overall in a experimental bike, or for the husband and wife couple on a modified bike that they use everyday.
This class however will not count towards overall honours, only in class.
The regulations will be available shortly and remember our entries are qualified as in the previous newsletter, please don’t be caught unaware.
Simon, he from BIKE SA is again our trophy sponsor and as usual just about everybody will get a trophy if you try hard enough.
Please read all about our generous sponsors on our website, and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or suggestions.
Regards,
Francois and Team from Pretoria Motor Club.
