2009 Route check 30/05-31/05/2009

1200 KM later, back home, and I have to say the roads are looking good.

Myself and Oom Kobus de Jager, him here shining with pride on his brand spanking new K1300R, got to pre check the 2009 run's route this weekend. The weather was extremely good apart from the measly 7 degrees past Witbank and a bit of bad crosswinds over Longtom on our way back this afternoon.

The only bad spot on the road for event day 1 was a stretch of potholes on the Stoffberg turn off about 15km from the Loskop starting blocks. But they are easily avoidable (map will be marked).Kobus de Jager, on his K1300R taken near Tzaneen

Twist and turns and straights and longs and we finally reached the 2nd last fuelstop, which, to our delight was ideally equipped with a fully stocked bottle store. We really enjoyed a cold one after the temperature soared to 35 degrees in the valley. I think Mr Jordaan's route planning to make this a fuel stop was a well thought out one!

We left Numbi Hotel this morning to test a portion of day 2 but the trip was nearly spoiled since a heavy fog bank moved in during the night. But nothing could ruin the song in the heart over the Blue Bulls' runaway win last night and the fog soon cleared into a bright and chirpy morning. Oom Kobus says he also could clearly see me enjoying the curves on our way to Witrivier and yes I did so much I had to wait quite a few minutes for him to catch up at the R37 Sabie turn off!

All in all the route is long and challenging and different. Come try yourself on the 2nd of July.
