What is the Econorun?
The RFS Econorun, sponsored by RFS Holdings (PTY) LTD, is an annual motorcycle competition to measure/compete the fuel economy of unmodified motorcycles under standard public road conditions and traffic rules. The event is underwritten by Motorsport SA (MSA) and organised by the Pretoria Motor Club (PMC).
The event is held during the last or 2nd last weekend of August each year and is hosted in the Lowveld vicinity. The travel distance per day is between 400-600km.
Anyone can enter for the event and no previous experience is necessary but there are limited entries available each year. Each competitor travels according to a pre-set route following a special route scroll map. Each competitor is set off individually on the minute and requires to arrive within a specified time at the next re-fuel/rest (following traffic rules.
Competitors can enter under different classes e.g. 1000cc and up, dual purpose bikes, pilon class, etc. Entry classes are re-specified at each event.
What you will need:
- Valid bike rider's license,
- Licensed, roadworthy and factory standard motorcycle,
- Good quality riding gear,
- Route map box (See FAQ how to make one),
- Entry and event accommodation (See entry registration on this site when the competition registration opens- about 2 months before the event).
